This page explains what biBERK is, which companies issue its policies and what it sells. It then covers who it fits, how claims work and what to check before you buy. Facts come from biBERK’s own website and Berkshire Hathaway’s 2025 annual report, and product details are stated as of October 2026.
What biBERK is and how buying works
biBERK, styled biBerk on its own website, says it was founded in 2015 to make buying small business insurance simpler and that it is part of the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group. Its site says it has sold 2 million policies.
Berkshire Hathaway’s 2025 annual report places biBERK inside Berkshire Hathaway Direct, a group of companies that offers commercial insurance to small and medium-sized businesses through two internet platforms, biBERK.com and Threeinsurance.com. The report lists 1,123 employees at Berkshire Hathaway Direct.
You buy directly. biBERK says you can get a quote entirely online or speak with one of its insurance experts by phone for help with a quote, a purchase or questions. It says it insures small businesses directly, without a middleman or broker, and that it passes the savings on, which it puts at up to 20% compared with policies from other insurance companies.
Who issues the policy
biBERK’s site says most policies issued through biBerk.com are underwritten by one of four Berkshire Hathaway companies: Wellfleet Insurance Company, Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company, National Liability & Fire Insurance Company or Wellfleet New York Insurance Company. The site’s copyright notice names biBerk Insurance Services.
Berkshire’s annual report says Berkshire Hathaway Direct writes its policies on an admitted basis, meaning under the rules and rate filings of each state’s insurance department. The same report notes that the GUARD Insurance Companies, a separate Berkshire group that also serves small and medium-sized businesses, sell through independent agents, wholesale brokers and managing general agents rather than direct.
Coverage it offers and for whom
biBERK lists eight lines on its site and publishes pages for specific industries, from accountants and bakeries to construction contractors, electricians, hotels and auto dealers. The table summarizes what each product page says.
| Line | What biBERK says |
|---|---|
| Workers’ compensation | Not sold in Ohio, where employers must buy it from the state agency |
| General liability | Premiums start as low as $27.50 a month |
| Professional liability and errors and omissions | Offered as separate professional liability and errors and omissions products |
| Business owners policy | Property and liability combined in one policy |
| Commercial auto | Covers vehicles listed on the policy, from cars and food trucks to truck tractors and trailers |
| Umbrella | Applies only when you have the matching underlying liability policy |
| Cyber | Added to a general liability, BOP or professional liability policy |
Commercial auto details
biBERK’s commercial auto page lists cars, limousines, pickups, buses, food trucks, motorhomes, truck tractors, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, cargo and passenger vans, tow trucks, box trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, dry van trailers and refrigerated trailers among the vehicles it can cover. Coverages include bodily injury and property damage liability, medical payments or personal injury protection, uninsured motorist, comprehensive and collision.
Its page also lists exclusions. Only vehicles listed on the policy are covered, so hired and non-owned vehicles such as employee-owned cars are not covered by this policy. biBERK says temporary rentals are covered while a listed vehicle is being repaired or after a total loss, and that you have 30 days to add a replacement vehicle. It also excludes intentional damage, racing, mobile equipment such as forklifts and injuries covered by workers’ comp.
Who it suits and who it may not
biBERK suits owners who are comfortable buying online or by phone and want policies issued by Berkshire Hathaway companies. As of October 2026, its state map says it provides coverage in all 50 states, while noting that options vary and you search by state to see what is available.
It may not fit every need. If you want an agent or broker to manage your account, biBERK’s model is direct. Ohio businesses cannot buy workers’ comp from biBERK, and if your drivers use their own or rented vehicles for work, its commercial auto policy does not cover hired and non-owned vehicles.
How claims and service work
biBERK’s claims page says you report a claim by phone or by selecting your policy type online, which leads to the matching claim form for workers’ comp, BOP, general liability, professional liability, commercial auto or umbrella. A qualified representative then contacts you to explain next steps, and biBERK says a decision follows.
biBERK recommends reporting at the time of the incident, taking photos if it is safe and getting the other party’s insurance information. Its site also lets policyholders request certificates of insurance and make payments online.
What to compare and ask before buying
These questions apply to biBERK and to any other insurer you consider.
- Which Berkshire Hathaway company underwrites each policy on your quote.
- Whether workers’ comp is sold in your state or must come from a state fund.
- Whether you need hired and non-owned auto cover that the listed-vehicle policy leaves out.
- Whether cyber cover is needed as an add-on and which base policy it attaches to.
- How the premium, limits and payment plan compare across insurers for the same coverage.
How it fits with getting several quotes
Berkshire Hathaway sells small business insurance through more than one channel: direct through biBERK and through agents and brokers via GUARD, according to its 2025 annual report. Prices, eligible industries and available lines differ between insurers, so comparing the same limits and deductibles across several of them shows where your business fits.
A broker such as Florin can compare quotes from several insurers for your workers’ comp, liability and auto in one review.
