This page explains what NEXT is, who issues its policies and what it sells. It then covers its published starting prices, how claims work and what to check before you buy. Every fact comes from NEXT’s own website or ERGO’s acquisition announcement, and product details are stated as of October 2026.

What NEXT is and how buying works

NEXT’s about page says the company was founded in 2016 by Guy Goldstein, Alon Huri and Nissim Tapiro and now serves more than 750,000 U.S. small businesses across more than 1,300 professions. On July 1, 2025, ERGO Group announced it had completed the full acquisition of NEXT by Munich Re Group, in a transaction announced at a $2.6 billion valuation. ERGO’s announcement describes NEXT as a technology-first property and casualty insurer with $548 million of revenue in 2024 and about 700 employees. The company now trades as ERGO NEXT Insurance.

NEXT sells three ways. Business owners can buy online, and NEXT says coverage is effective immediately after payment with a certificate of insurance at no extra cost. Appointed agents can quote and bind online for the same professions, and partner platforms can embed NEXT’s insurance in their own products.

NEXT’s terms of service say it acts as an agent that submits your application to insurance companies. The carriers it lists are Next Insurance US Company, its own subsidiary, plus State National Insurance Company and National Specialty Insurance Company. Its site footer adds that policy obligations are the sole responsibility of the issuing insurance company.

Coverage it offers and what NEXT says it costs

NEXT’s core lines are general liability, workers’ compensation, business owner’s policies, professional liability and commercial property. Its site also lists tools and equipment, employment practices liability, product liability and liquor liability. Commercial auto works differently: NEXT says it partners with GEICO for commercial auto policies and that commercial auto is not available through its appointed agents at this time.

Each product page shows a starting monthly price. NEXT says these figures reflect existing premiums of active policies as of April 1, 2026, apply to some low-risk businesses and are not guaranteed. Your price depends on your industry, operations, size, location, payroll and the limits you choose.

Who it suits and who it may not

NEXT is built for small businesses that want to buy and manage coverage online. Its site groups customers into construction and contractors, consultants, cleaning, retail, food and beverage, sports and fitness, education, arts and entertainment and beauty and personal care, and says it covers more than 1,300 professions in all.

Some businesses will find less of what they need in one place. If vehicles are central to your work, NEXT’s commercial auto comes from GEICO rather than from NEXT’s own carriers, and it is not available through NEXT’s appointed agents. NEXT also states that issuance of coverage is subject to underwriting, that applicants are individually underwritten and that coverage is not available in all states, so the lines on offer can depend on where you operate and what you do.

Businesses that prefer to work with a person can use NEXT’s agent finder, which lists licensed agents by state, and then manage certificates and claims through a NEXT online account.

How claims and service work

Customers file a claim by logging into their account, opening the Claims tab and answering a few questions, with photos and documents attached. NEXT says a dedicated claims advocate will usually contact you within one business day, and that non-customers making a claim against a NEXT policyholder can use an online form.

NEXT publishes its own claims figures for claims nationwide from January 1, 2021 to October 7, 2024 across all lines: a median resolution time of 15 days, with 1 out of 3 claims resolved within 7 days. What you need depends on the claim. For a general liability claim NEXT asks for incident details, photos and the work order or contract, and for workers’ compensation it asks for the employee’s details, the injury and any witness statements or treatment information.

Day to day, policyholders can download and send certificates of insurance online or in NEXT’s app. NEXT lists chat support Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central.

What to compare and ask before buying

A starting price is a floor for low-risk businesses, not a quote. These questions apply to NEXT and to any other insurer you consider.

  • Which carrier issues each policy: Next Insurance US Company, State National, National Specialty or, for auto, GEICO.
  • Whether the limits, additional insured wording and waivers match your lease, client contracts and licensing requirements.
  • Whether tools and equipment, hired and non-owned auto or employment practices coverage is included or must be added.
  • How the general liability, property and workers’ comp premiums compare with a package from another insurer for the same limits.
  • How cancellation and refunds work, since NEXT advertises that you can cancel anytime.

How it fits with getting several quotes

NEXT’s instant online quote makes it easy to get one price quickly, and NEXT itself notes that rates vary by business and are individually underwritten. Comparing that price against quotes from other insurers for the same limits and deductibles shows whether it fits your business, especially if you also need commercial auto or higher limits.

A broker such as Florin can compare quotes from several insurers for your business in one review.
