This review explains what Nirvana Insurance is, who issues its policies, which trucking operations it writes and how its telematics pricing and claims process work, based on Nirvana’s own pages and its partners’ press releases. It does not rate or rank the company.
What Nirvana Insurance is and how buying works
Nirvana was founded in early 2021 and is based in San Francisco, according to a December 2023 press release from SiriusPoint. Its About page says co-founder and CEO Rushil Goel previously built the fleet business at Samsara, and that the company sold its first policy in 2022. The other founders listed are Abhay Mitra and Alex Carges, who serves as chief actuary.
Nirvana is not the insurance company on your policy. The disclosure on its website describes Nirvana as an independent insurance producer that may have access to more than one insurer and receives compensation from them. SiriusPoint said in 2023 that it had provided capacity to Nirvana since January 2022, and Nirvana announced in October 2024 that MS Transverse Insurance Company, part of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, had added capacity.
You buy through an insurance agent. Nirvana’s broker page says agents get appointed, complete an application in under 10 minutes and work with a dedicated underwriter on each account. Its Find an Agent page lists the agencies that place its business by state. The company has raised $22 million (Series A, February 2022), $57 million (Series B, October 2023), $80 million (Series C, March 2025) and $100 million (Series D, December 2025), the last at a $1.5 billion valuation, according to its press page and Series D release.
Coverage it offers and for whom
As of November 2026, Nirvana’s Fleet Program page describes coverage for trucking operations with 10 or more power units, with no premium minimums and billing based on miles driven. Auto liability is required; the other lines are added to suit the operation, with several deductible options.
Nirvana has also offered a smaller-fleet product. SiriusPoint announced in December 2023 that it was backing a new Nirvana non-fleet program for fleets with fewer than 10 power units, and Nirvana’s About page still lists a general manager for non-fleet. Its site navigation now shows only the Fleet Program, so an owner-operator or small fleet should ask an agent whether non-fleet coverage is available in their state.
| Coverage | What Nirvana says it covers |
|---|---|
| Auto liability (required) | Damage to others’ property and vehicles, medical expenses and more |
| Auto physical damage | Your trucks and related equipment |
| Motor truck cargo | The freight hauled in your trucks |
| General liability | Injuries or property damage tied to your business but not your truck |
How telematics pricing works
Nirvana’s pricing depends on data from the telematics devices already in your trucks. According to its Why Telematics page, your agent sends a link to connect your telematics provider, Nirvana quotes from your driving history and a safe fleet can receive up to 20% off upfront. Nirvana says the full discount applies for the whole term and your rate will not change mid-term, even after an accident or claim.
The same page lists the data Nirvana collects. It says it never sells or trades that data and that access is limited to your fleet, your agency, people you choose to share with and law enforcement when required.
- GPS location, speed and time information
- VINs for all vehicles and odometer readings
- Safety event counts such as harsh braking and acceleration
- Camera footage, pulled only in the event of an accident
Who it suits and who it may not
Based on its published program details, Nirvana is built for trucking fleets of 10 or more power units that run electronic logging or telematics devices and are willing to share that data in exchange for safety-based pricing. Fleets that want a rate that stays fixed for the term, rather than adjusting monthly, match how Nirvana describes its product.
It may not fit a business that runs fewer than 10 power units, unless non-fleet coverage is available where you operate, or one that does not want to connect telematics. It also only covers the 28 states listed on its Fleet Program page. In California, Nirvana began writing fleets of 10 or more power units in December 2024, and its Fleet Program page marks California as non-admitted, so ask your agent what that means for your policy. Businesses that need lines Nirvana does not list, such as workers’ compensation, will need a separate insurer for them.
How claims and service work
Claims for Nirvana’s Fleet and business auto programs are handled by Vega Claims, which Nirvana describes as an independent third-party administrator that it does not own. You can report 24/7 online through Nirvana’s Safety Intelligence Platform, by email to Vega or by calling 1-888-383-8614.
Nirvana’s claims page says Vega makes initial contact within 3 hours of a filed claim, and its FAQ says you will hear back the same business day if you report before 3 p.m. Eastern. Nirvana does not open claims automatically from crash alerts; the fleet must report the loss, and Vega may then use telematics and dashcam data to assess it. Nirvana also publishes a printable accident kit, in English and Spanish, for drivers to keep in the cab.
Beyond claims, Nirvana offers a Safety Intelligence Platform that tracks FMCSA and telematics safety data, and safety management services such as mock audits, driver training programs and DataQs help, according to its claims and Fleet Program pages.
What to compare and ask before buying
Because Nirvana sells only through agents and prices on your data, the useful questions are about the policy itself and how the telematics review affects it.
- Which insurance company issues the policy, and is it admitted in your state
- Whether your fleet size and state qualify for the Fleet Program or any non-fleet option
- How mileage-based billing works and what happens if your miles rise mid-term
- Liability limits, deductibles and cargo exclusions compared with your broker and shipper contracts
- Whether the insurer will make the federal and state filings your authority needs
- How renewal pricing is set after a year of telematics data and any claims
How it fits with getting several quotes
Nirvana is one of several trucking insurers that price on telematics, and its programs are open only to certain fleet sizes and states. Its own discount applies only to fleets its data model rates as safe, so the same fleet can see very different prices from different insurers.
Comparing quotes from several markets shows you whether Nirvana’s upfront discount and locked rate beat a traditional policy for your operation. A broker such as Florin can compare quotes from several insurers so you can weigh coverage, limits and price side by side.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nirvana Insurance a real insurance company?
Nirvana is not the insurer itself. Its website describes it as an independent insurance producer, and the policies it sells are issued by partner insurers; it has announced capacity from SiriusPoint since 2022 and from MS Transverse Insurance Company since October 2024.
Can I buy Nirvana Insurance directly online?
No. Nirvana sells through appointed insurance agents, and its website has a Find an Agent tool listing agencies by state.
Does Nirvana insure owner-operators?
Its current Fleet Program requires 10 or more power units. SiriusPoint announced a Nirvana non-fleet program for fewer than 10 power units in December 2023, so ask an agent whether it is available in your state.
How much can Nirvana’s telematics discount save?
Nirvana says safe fleets can earn up to 20% off upfront, applied for the full policy term. The actual discount depends on what your telematics data shows.
Will my Nirvana premium go up after an accident mid-term?
Nirvana says your rate is locked for the policy term and will not change mid-term, even after an accident or claim. A claim can still affect pricing at renewal.
How do I report a claim with Nirvana?
Report 24/7 online through the Safety Intelligence Platform, by email to Vega Claims or by calling 1-888-383-8614. Vega, an independent administrator, handles Nirvana’s claims.
